Disaster Management Institute in Mumbai by BMC

The BMC is planning to set up a disaster management institute in collaboration with the disaster management centre (DIRC) in Japan,
additional municipal commissioner Kishore Gajbhiye announced on Tuesday. He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Mumbai Emergency Management Exercise (MEMEx), a week-long disaster preparedness exercise, at the university of Mumbai, Kalina.

MEMEx will provide training in emergency situation, medical response, hospital disaster preparedness and pre-hospital care. This training will be extended to medical officials, paramedics, BMC employees, emergency officers with the civic body such as the police, disaster management personnel and fire brigade officers.

Twenty-four international faculty members, including professionals from Cornell and Columbia universities as well as Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, will train the participants.
