Concessional rates education loans for girls

Government-owned banks have decided to provide cheaper education loans to girls by extending a special interest rate discount of at least 0.5 percentage points on the card rate.

The Indian Banks’ Association on February 4 asked its members to make available new loans to girls at concessional rates, setting a borrowing limit of Rs 10 lakh for studies in India and Rs 20 lakh for education overseas.

The finance ministry initiated the move to set up the model educational loan scheme on the basis of observations by a parliamentary panel, an official in the ministry said.

At present, the interest rate on education loans is between 11% and 13%. Public sector banks cannot charge more than their benchmark prime lending rate (PLR) for education loans up to Rs 4 lakh. For loans over Rs 4 lakh and up to Rs 20 lakh, the maximum rate of interest cannot be more than one percentage point above PLR.

Loans for education are classed as priority sector advances by the Reserve Bank of India. According to rules, at least 40% of bank loans should be to priority sectors such as agriculture, small enterprises, education and housing.

Six Sigma Online Training Info

Six Sigma Certification is becoming an expectation in the business world. Six Sigma Online training unlocks the door for those whose schedule demands a "self-paced" approach, rather than that of an on-site curriculum. Six Sigma training encourages individuals to stop what they are doing, examine how well they have done it, and then implement improvements to iron out defects. Most organizations focus only on the operational aspects of their business, seldom stopping to ask themselves, “What went wrong?" Six Sigma forces people to continually evaluate critical processes. Everyday, companies like Microsoft and Pfizer trust us with their future goals, trust us today with yours!

Aveta's Six Sigma Certification - Online
Six Sigma Online courses are an independent, textbook-based structure. Generally speaking, you read the required sections and are tested for proficiency. There are some additional training resources available in our course, however these materials are not required reading for the exams or your certification. They are simply meant to promote a more thorough learning experience.

Aveta's Six Sigma Black Belt, Green Belt, Yellow Belt, DFSS, and Lean Six Sigma Certification Courses were designed for the modern day busy lifestyle. These self-paced web-based classes allow for a much more in-depth coverage of the topics as opposed to other Six Sigma courses, while at a fraction of the cost of on-site training. Aveta's Six Sigma Online Training not only allows your business to reach its potential, but also your career's value.

New research activities at Delhi University

Delhi University (DU) has come up with a range of schemes to boost its research activities. Madan Mohan, dean, research, Delhi University, explains,
“Though funding for research in Indian universities has improved considerably in the last decade or so, there is a dearth of research motivation. This can be attributed to the fact that policies and guidelines for research have not been in tune with the times. Hence DU, as one of the leading universities, is taking initiatives to attract and sustain the best talent in research.”

To encourage research in the domain of biotechnology, medicine and law, DU has introduced a scheme where students with a BTech, LLB or MBBS can directly pursue a PhD. “One does not necessarily have to pursue a Master’s to register for a PhD,” says Mohan. However, to avail of this scheme, a BTech student should have 70 per cent in the final aggregate, coupled with a good Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) percentile score. For LLB students, the qualifying requisite is 60 per cent in the final aggregate.

“Students who meet this criterion will further be interviewed by the university’s Department Research Committee (DRC). Based on its decision, selected candidates can join the PhD programme,” informs Mohan. This scheme, novel to DU, is applicable to students from across universities in India.

Some of the other initiatives include extending university teaching assistanceships to deserving research candidates, introduction of the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) cell and patent fund to help researchers cope with publication charges of their papers or to patent their work.
