An applicant possessing the following qualifications in appropriate area shall be eligible to apply for admission for Ph.D. programme of the Institute. Masters degree in Engineering / Technology/Architecture/Urban & Rural Planning/Sciences/ Humanities & Social Sciences and Management in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute wherever letter grades are awarded; or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/ semesters) where marks are awarded.

OR
Applicants with B.Tech./B.Arch. degree or equivalent in respective discipline with excellent academic record (with a minimum CGPA of 7.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent or 70% marks) may be considered eligible for admission.

Applicants for admission for full-time studies who do not possess a M.Tech./ M.Arch./ MURP degree or equivalent in the relevant field must have a valid GATE score (at least 75 percentile) for Engineering / Technology/ Science disciplines or must have qualified national level fellowship examinations such as NET (JRF/LS) conducted by UGC/CSIR for Science/ Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines.

Engineering/Architecture graduates from any IIT/erstwhile University of Roorkee having CGPA Score > 8.00 or marks > 80% are also eligible for admission without GATE score .


RESERVATION/RELAXATION for IIT Roorkee Ph.D Admissions 2009

a) Relaxation in eligibility requirement in terms of minimum CGPA upto 5.5 or 55% marks in aggregate will be given to SC, ST and Persons with Disability (PD) applicants and those with M.A. English (for admission to Ph.D. English in the Deptt. of Humanities and Social Sciences of IIT Roorkee) as per Institute regulations.

International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL)

The Himachal Pradesh University took the bold step right in the beginning and a Directorate of Correspondence Courses was set up after the establishment of the University (1971). Not only this, the University emerged as a pioneering institution in launching the programmes of distance education at the postgraduate level. In India, the H.P.University was the first University to start Master of Arts in different disciplines along with Master of Education and Master of Commerce. Over the years, its Directorate of Correspondence Courses gradually absorbed the emerging philosophy of distance education and adopted multi-media approach for imparting instruction. In view of this, the Directorate of Correspondence Course has been rechristened as the International Centre for Distance Educational and Open Learning (ICDEOL). It is located on the Campus of the University at Summer Hill. It has its own independent complex consisting of two buildings having five stories each.

Admissions to the various courses of study are usually held in the months of June/July, and with late fee up to time notified from time to time.

Spot Admission Facility:

For convenience of the students the ICDEOL has created Spot Admission Centres at various places within and outside the state. These centres are located in most of the Govt. colleges at District Headquarters of Himachal Pradesh and outside the state, i.e. Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar and Ludhiana.

Medium of Instructions:

ICDEOL imparts instructions mainly through the medium of printed lecture scripts, which are supplemented by Personal Contact Programmes and response sheets. Efforts are afoot to equip our traditional libraries with audio/video cassettes in addition to usual stock of books and also to further replenish our existing Study-cum-Resource Centres. The medium of instruction is Hindi or English at the Undergraduate level according to the option of a student and English at Postgraduate level except in the subjects of Hindi and Sanskrit. The study material in case of Postgraduate courses is made available in English medium. The lectures in Personal Contact Programmes are also delivered in English. However, the student can get clarifications in Hindi during Personal Contact Programmes as well as answer the assignments either in Hindi or English. The students may write the examination either in Hindi or English medium, except in language papers.

Syllabi, Duration and Examination:

The syllabi, duration, examination and degrees etc. for the ICDEOL students are the same as prescribed for the campus students of the university. The subject allowed for various classes are given in the Hand-Book. Detailed syllabi along with instructional material are sent to the student at the time of the commencement of the session.

Study Material:

In each course, soon after enrollment ordinarily 10 to16 lessons/study material covering the entire syllabi in a semester/year is sent to the students. Eminent scholars and teachers prepare these lessons, preferably Professors and Readers in the Universities and in some cases senior lecturers.

Assignments:

The students are required to submit written responses to each assignment prescribed at the end of the lesson in accordance with the schedule as may be laid down by the ICDEOL.

Personal Contact Programmes :

Personal Contact Programmes (PCP) are arranged for the benefit of the students at the different places depending upon the strength of the students. During these Personal Contact Programmes, the services of internal faculty and eminent teachers from outside are especially requisitioned for enriching the quality of academic programmes.

Note:

100% attendance in a semester for M.Ed., B.Ed., BA/MA (Music), PGDCA/ APGDIT courses both in PCP & Practical Training is compulsory and date of Personal Contact Programme is communicated by post.
The Personal Contact Programme for other classes is organized for a period of 7 to 25 days.
Examination Schedule and Centre:

The examination for M.B.A/M.A./M.Com./M.Sc,/PGDPM & LW/PGDCA/APGDIT are conducted on semester basis normally in the month of November for I/III semester and in June every year for II/IV semester. The examination for B.A./B.Com./B.C.A/BJMC/MJMC etc. Classes are, however, conducted on annual basis i.e. once in a year tentatively in the month of March, Supplementary examination for compartment cases of B.A,/B.Com./B.C.A. courses are normally held in the month of September. M.Phil examination are held for 1st semester in the month of March/April and 2nd semester in August/September. Keeping in view the strength of the students and availability of space and certain facilities, ICDEOL has also been setting up Examination Centres in different parts of the State and outside the state at 1) Amritsar, 2) Chandigarh, 3) Delhi, and 4) Ludhiana.

Facilities:

The International Centre for Distance Education has a well equipped library of its own at the Headquarter. The ICDEOL has also its own computer lab and Information-cum-Guidance Centre functioning at Delhi. This centre has been effectively catering to the local needs of the students enrolled with ICDEOL

• Since English is the medium of instruction at BPD, good proficiency in English is essential for admission. Hence candidates who have completed their qualifying examination from Non-English Medium Schools must have secured a TOEFL Score of 500 in paper based test or 61 in internet based test or have an IELTS Score of 5. If necessary, they will also be assessed by an institute-committee for English Comprehension.
Aggregate: Aggregate is the total marks of all subjects in the Qualifying Examination, considered essential by the Board / University for passing the examination. The Aggregate must compulsorily contain the required subjects, namely, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. . The Candidate's position in the merit list will be based only on this aggregate marks secured by him/her.

The following distance Learning Courses are offered under distance mode for the V Batch commencing from July 2009.

(i) International Post Graduate Diploma in Life Insurance(IPGDLI)

National Talent Search Examination-NTSE 2009 Modification in Scheme

Modification in the Scheme of Testing National Talent Search Examination-2009

Please note that the following changes have been made in the SAT and MAT for NTS Examination from 2009 onwards.
• The SAT and MAT will have 100 items each in place of 90 items given in the NTS Scheme.
• Each question will carry 1 mark. The total marks will be 100 for each test.
• Minimum qualifying marks will be 40% i.e. 40 marks for general category.
• Minimum qualifying marks for reserved categories will be 32% i.e. 32 marks.
• The duration of the tests will remain the same i.e. 90 minutes each.
• For first 90 questions in both SAT and MAT, the candidates have to put a cross mark (X) on the number of the correct alternative on the answer sheet against the corresponding question. For questions 91-100, the answers are to be written in the given space in the answer sheet.

Distance Education MBA From IGNOU

IGNOU DISTANCE EDUCATION MBA IN INDIA

The Indira Gandhi National Open University is one of India's premier institutes for distance education courses and distance MBA education courses. It conducts two kinds of distance education MBA courses: one general and one specially meant for the banking sector.

For the first course, a student is expected to study all 11 courses conducted in IGNOU's Post Graduate Diploma in Management (which vary from Information Systems to Marketing to Accounting). Following this the student must complete five courses form one of the specialisation streams, which are: Human Resources Management, Financial Management, Operations Management and Marketing Management.

A student must do a course in Advance Strategic Management and Research Methodology for Management Decisions. One is also expected to do an elective course from one of five subjects. A project must be completed, which gains the same credits as two courses.

The Institute admits PhD students under the following categories for Ph.D Admissions 2009

i) REGULAR
A student in this category works full-time for his/her PhD degree. He/She receives assistantship from the Institute or fellowship from CSIR/UGC or any other recognized funding agency.

ii) SPONSORED (FULL-TIME)
A student in this category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, academic institution, government organization or industry for doing research in the Institute on a full-time basis. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. Sponsorship letter (Form-I) must be attached with the application.

iii) SELF-FINANCED
A student in this category works full-time or part-time towards the PhD Programme. He/She must have at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student.

iv) PART-TIME
A student in this category is a professionally employed person (including the staff of IIT Patna), who pursues the PhD Programme while continuing the duties of his/her service. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form-II) must be enclosed at the time of application.

v) EXTERNAL
This category refers to a student employed in an R&D organization/academic institution/industry having adequate research facilities. The research work leading to the PhD degree may be carried out largely in the parent organization of the candidate under a Local Supervisor from the organization but with the overall guidance provided by a faculty member (Institute Supervisor) of the Department/Centre in which he/she is registered. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A certificate from the Head of the sponsoring Institution/Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form-III) must be enclosed at the time of application.

Note: The word `Form’ used under this section refers to the forms as specified in Pages 4 to 6 of the Application Form for Admission to PhD Programme.

Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra invites applications for admission to the full-time MBA Programme 2009 – 2011 at Mesra, and Extension Centres at Lalpur, Noida and Jaipur.

Eligibility Criteria for BITS MBA:
A. Candidates must have appeared in CAT 2008.

B. They must hold a Bachelor’s degree (minimum 10+2+3) or equivalent in any discipline recognized by the UGC / Ministry of HRD / AIU.

C. Candidates of B.Sc. / B.A. / B. Com. Honours must have minimum 55% marks in average (45% for SC/ST) in their Honours subject. Candidates of BBA and other graduate courses must have minimum 55% marks in average (45% for SC/ST) in graduation, marks to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects). Candidates graduating in 2009 can also apply, provided they can submit marksheets by 31 October 2009. Candidates with qualifications acquired through correspondence or distance-learning programmes are eligible only if they acquired such qualifications as working professionals / while in employment.

D. Candidates must have Verbal Percentile Score at least 40 (25 for SC/ST) and Total Percentile Score at least 40 (25 for SC/ST) in CAT-2008.

* A candidate must additionally have passed English as a subject of study either at the 10th Class level or 12th Class level (core or elective).

Note:
1. An applicant who has to leave an Engineering Degree Course, or an equivalent course, after 56 exhausting the permissible number of chances in any other University/Board in India, will not be eligible for admission to Bachelor of Engineering Course.
2. Candidates who have appeared at the Annual Examination of the year 2008 and placed in compartment will not be eligible for admission for the year 2008-2009.
3. Candidates who have appeared at the Annual Examination of the year 2008 and reappear for the improvement to acquire the eligibility will not be considered for admission for the year 2008-2009.
4. No admission will be made directly to the second or any subsequent semester of the course.
5. No change of branch will be permitted after the commencement of the second semester, even if some seats fall vacant in some of the branches during the course of second semester.

TANCET 2009 On May 30 and 31

The Anna University (Chennai) will conduct the TANCET 2009 of the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) on May 30 and 31. It is mandatory for students aspiring to join MBA, MCA, ME, MTech, M.Arch and MPlan postgraduate degree courses to appear for the TANCET.

The TANCET will be conducted in various centres in Chennai, Coimmbatore, Erode, Karaikudi, Tirunelveli, Vellore, Chidambaram, Salem, Thanjavur, Villupuram, Virudhunagar, Nagercoil, Madurai and Karaikudi. A notification regarding the TANCET will be issued soon.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and the INSTITUTO CERVANTES to offer an online certificate programme in Spanish language.

Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) 2009 On 2nd May 2009

Symbiosis Entrance Test
Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is a common written test for the admission processes of undergraduate institutes of Symbiosis International University [SIU] established as Deemed to be University” under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 vide notification No.F.9.12/2001 U.3 of the Govt. of India. Subsequently ten more Institutes of Symbiosis have been brought under the ambit of Symbiosis International University vide notification No.F.9.12/2006-U.3 (A).

It is a mandatory written test for the admission process for the undergraduate programmes of these Symbiosis institutes, except for Symbiosis institute of Technology(SIT) and Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS). However, it is only the first step. Each Symbiosis institute has its independent selection process.

SET-2009 has 5 different papers namely General, Design, Law, Engineering and Health Sciences.
The test will be conducted in two sessions, Morning and Afternoon.
A Candidate may take more than one paper. However he may chose one paper from morning session and one paper from afternoon session.

COMEDK UGET 2009 On 17 May 2009

Admissions to Undergraduate courses in Private, Unaided, Medical and Engineering colleges of Karnataka for the academic year 2009-20 through COMEDK Under Graduate Entrance Test and Centralized Counseling ( COMEDK UGET 2009)

Karnataka Private Medical and dental Colleges Association and Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering College Association have set up COMEDK to organize a “Common Entrance Test and Centralized counseling” that would facilitate selection of candidates on merit for admissions to undergraduate courses offered by member institutions (Medical and engineering). COMEDK entrance test & publication of test score and rank list will be followed by centralized counseling (single window system).

Indian Statistical Institute Degree/Fellowships Admissions 2009

INDIAN STATISTICAL INSTITUTE ADMISSIONS SESSION 2009 – 2010

B.Stat.(Hons.), B.Math.(Hons.), M.Stat., M.Math., M.S.(QE), M.S.(LIS), M.Tech.(CS), M.Tech.(QROR) and Fellowships.

Applications are invited for the following programmes from the candidates having qualifications as shown against each programme. Stipend/Fellowship as mentioned against each programme will be available to the deserving candidates.

1. 3-year B.Stat. (Hons.) : Successful completion of 10+2 years of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent with Mathematics and English. Stipend Rs. 800/- per month. (Offered at Kolkata).
2. 3-year B.Math. (Hons.) : Successful completion of 10+2 years of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent with Mathematics and English. Stipend Rs. 800/- per month. (Offered at Bangalore).
Candidates for the above two programmes, who have qualified for the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad test, conducted by the National Board for Higher Mathematics, Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India, need not sit for the written test; such candidates would be directly called for interview. However, such candidates are required to apply in the prescribed application form.
3. 2-year M.Stat. : 3 - year Bachelor’s degree with Statistics as full subject, or a B. Stat./B. Math. degree from the Indian Statistical Institute or
a Statistician’s Diploma/ Senior Diploma in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute. Stipend Rs.1200/- per month.
(The first year of B- and NB- Streams of M. Stat. are held at Kolkata and Applications Specialization, if offered, is held at Delhi).
4. 2-year M.Math. : 3-year Bachelor’s degree or a B.E./B.Tech. degree, with Mathematics and an exceptionally strong background in Analysis and Abstract Algebra or a B.Stat./B.Math. degree from the Indian Statistical Institute. Stipend Rs. 1200/- per month. (Offered at Bangalore).
5. 2-year Master of Science (M.S.) in Quantitative Economics : 3-year Bachelor’s degree in Economics / Mathematics / Statistics/ Physics or a B.Stat. degree from the Indian Statistical Institute. Engineering graduates are also eligible. Candidates should have knowledge of Economics and Mathematics at the B.A./B.Sc. pass level. Stipend Rs.1200/- per month (Offered at Kolkata & Delhi).
6. 2-year Master of Science (M.S.) in Library and Information Science : 3-year Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. The candidates must have secured at least 60% marks in the Bachelors’ degree. Stipend Rs. 1200/- per month. (Offered at Bangalore).
7. 2-year M.Tech. in Computer Science : (i) Master's degree in Mathematics/Statistics/ Physics/ Electronic Sciences/ Computer Science/Computer Applications/Information Technology or, (ii) Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or any other qualification considered equivalent (such as AMIE or, GRAD-IETE or, DOEACC ‘B’ Level). Stipend Rs. 5000/- per month. (Offered at Kolkata).
A candidate with a valid GATE score above a threshold (to be decided by the Selection Committee) in his/her own subject would be directly called for interview. However, such candidates are required to apply in the prescribed application form.
8. 2-year M.Tech. in Quality, Reliability and Operations Research : (i) Master's degree in Statistics or Master's degree in Mathematics with Probability and Statistics as major subjects or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent or PG diploma in SQC & OR from the Indian Statistical Institute and (ii) Knowledge of Mathematics at graduate level and knowledge of Physics and Chemistry at Higher Secondary level. Stipend Rs. 5000/- per month. (Offered at Kolkata).
A candidate who was asked to discontinue any of the above programmes is not eligible for readmission to the same programme.
9. Junior Research Fellowships :
(a) Statistics : (i) A good academic record with M.Stat., M.A./M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Statistics or, (ii) outstanding mathematical maturity with B.Stat./B.Math., B.A./B.Sc. or equivalent degree with Statistics as the main subject.
(b) Mathematics : (i) A good academic record with M.Stat., M.Math., M.A./M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Mathematics or, (ii) outstanding mathematical maturity with B.Stat./B.Math., B.A./B.Sc. or equivalent degree with Mathematics as the main subject.
(c) Quantitative Economics : (i) A good academic record with M.S.(QE), M.Stat., M.A./M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Statistics/ Mathematics / Economics/ Econometrics or, (ii) outstanding mathematical maturity with B.A./B.Sc. degree with Economics as the main subject. A candidate possessing a Master's degree in any subject with Mathematics/Statistics at B.A./B.Sc. (Pass) level is also eligible.
(d) Computer Science : A good academic record with M.E./ M.Tech. or equivalent degree in Electronics/ Telecommunication/ Radio Physics/ Computer Science/ Electrical Engineering/Microwave Communications/ Information Technology/Bioinformatics/Biotechnology with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level or a good academic record with M.Sc./ M.C.A./ M.A. or equivalent degree in Physics/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Electronic Sciences/Computer Science/ Atmospheric Science/ Information Technology/Bioinformatics/Biotechnology with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level. Outstanding candidates having B.E./ B.Tech./ equivalent degree in the above subjects will also be eligible.
(e) Quality, Reliability and Operations Research : A good academic record with M. Tech./M.E./ M.S/M. Phil or equivalent degree in Quality/Reliability/Operations Research or a good academic record with M. Stat./M. Sc./M.A. or equivalent degree in Mathematics/Statistics/Physics with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level. Outstanding candidates having B.E./B. Tech./equivalent degree in the above subjects will also be eligible.
(f) Biological Anthropology : A good academic record with M.Sc. in Anthropology (with specialization in Physical/Biological Anthropology)/Human Biology/ Human Genetics/ Genetics/ Molecular Genetics/ Biotechnology .
(g) Physics and Applied Mathematics : A good academic record with M.Sc. in Physics / Mathematics / Statistics.
(h) Agriculture & Ecology : A good academic record with M.Sc. in Botany (with specialization in Plant Physiology/Biochemistry)/ Environmental Science/Microbiology/Zoology/Physiology.
