UGC Important Public Notice

University Grants Commission-UGC IMPORTANT PUBLIC NOTICE

It has come to the notice of the University Grants Commission (UGC) that some of the Deemed Universities are opening Off-Campus(s)/ Off-Shore Campus(s)/ New Department(s)/ Study Centre(s) and starting courses (other than allied courses and approved by UGC and Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi) without the prior approval of UGC and Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. In some cases, it has been found that after submission of the proposal for Off-Campus(s)/ new departments)/ new institutions) to the Government of India and UGC, the deemed universities started admitting students in these centers without waiting for the final approval from UGC/ Government of India. Some of them are also imparting education under distance mode without the approval of the UGC-AICTE-DEC Joint Committee and even through franchisee agreement with private institutions. Some of the Deemed Universities are reported to have given affiliation to Colleges/ Institutions against approved policy of UGC.

Students, parents and the general public at large are, therefore, cautioned and advised not to take admission in the unapproved Off-Campus(s)/ Off-Shore Campus(s)/ New Department(s) / Study Centre(s), Colleges/ Institutions affiliated to deemed to be universities and courses run under distance mode (without the approval of UGC-AICTE-DEC Joint Committee). Study Centres established and maintained by the deemed universities are only for the purpose of advising, counseling or for rendering any other assistance required by the students used in the context of distance education and no students should be admitted in these centres. The information related to UGC/ Government of India approved off-campus(s), off-shore campus(s), constituent unit(s) and institution(s) under the ambit of deemed universities is available on the UGC website (www.ugc.ac.in). Students desirous to take admission in any of these Deemed Universities and / or" their off-campus(s), off-shore campus(s), constituent unit(s) and institution(s) under their ambit must first check the status of the approval on the UGC website. They are also requested to bring any violation of the above to the notice of the Joint Secretary (CPP-I), UGC for taking necessary action.
As far as the programmes run under distance mode by the deemed universities are concerned, the approval of the UGC-AICTE-DEC Joint Committee is mandatory and this matter is being dealt by the Distance Education Council, Indira Gandhi National Open University. Any information in this regard may be obtained from Director, Distance Education Council, Indira Gandhi National Open University, Maidan Garni, New Delhi.
